No doubt you’ve heard that “timing is everything.” It’s not clear who coined that phrase but we all recognize the ring of truth in that saying. It applies to remodeling your Fresno home as well in a number of different ways. So when is the best time to remodel in Fresno? Let’s look at a number of instances where timing can be important.
Scheduling and Pricing
Some contractors in parts of the homebuilding industry see significant peaks and valleys when it comes to how busy they are. Things tend to be busier from spring through fall and then taper off. As a rule, remodelers have more consistency (although homeowners do like to have a project completed before significant events such as holiday get-togethers and weddings). Some homeowners think that they might get a better schedule or price on remodeling if business is slower.
Remodelers, however, are also less likely to be affected by weather-related delays—especially in the Fresno area where even in our coldest months (December and January) the lows remain in the upper 30s and the highs hit the upper 50s. And in general, rain isn’t much of a problem. Even in our rainiest month (February) we only average 6 days of rain in the entire month.
If you’re planning a remodel of your Fresno home the time of year is probably not likely to affect either your schedule or your cost.
Timing for Your Family
There is something more important than the calendar you should consider when planning your remodeling project. You really want to look at what else is going on in your family at the time. Remodeling is, by nature, somewhat disruptive. And while we at Imagine Remodeling are very conscious about creating as little disruption as possible, remodeling will still cause some disruption to your normal schedule. For instance, if you’re planning to remodel your kitchen, you’ll want to think about how you’re going to prepare meals (and perhaps eat them) during the remodeling process.
You’ll also want to be sure that you’re available to talk to your contractor and make decisions about plans, materials, and changes. If you have other stressful things going on at the same time, that can make it tough to give your remodel the attention it deserves (and it can also make it more difficult to deal with other stressors in your life).
You may have pressing needs that make remodeling a more urgent necessity. If your family is growing unexpectedly, it may absolutely be the right time to remodel. Perhaps you’re expecting a baby and you need more space. Or you could have an older family member moving in with you and you need to make modifications that allow for aging-in-place.
Your needs could even be driven by something such as several kitchen appliances needing to be replaced at the same time. And you may decide that instead of just replacing the appliances, you want to remodel the entire kitchen.
The fact is that it can almost always be a good time to remodel. The real key, however, is allowing yourself enough time to plan properly so that you end up with the results you really want. A big part of that planning involves educating yourself about the process and the possibilities. For instance, if you’re planning to remodel your bathroom, you might want to download our free Bathroom Design and Remodeling Guide that’s packed with information about how to discover your ideal bathroom style; assess your new bathrooms functionality; and how to schedule a remodel.
When is the best time to remodel your Fresno home? When your schedule permits it; when your needs require it; and when you’ve had the time to think through exactly what you want so that you end up with the best results.
