The weather in Fresno lends itself to outdoor activity. Even the hotter months of the year (June, July, and August) are quite enjoyable if you get out early. That makes the Fresno area ideal for golf. And if golf happens to be one of your passions, here's a look at some of the best country clubs in Fresno, California.
Most of the country clubs in the Fresno area are spread out over the area north of downtown. Let’s take a look at just a few of the opportunities you have to get in a few rounds of golf—and enjoy the other amenities these clubs offer.
Copper River Country Club
This beautiful private club is just a short drive north from downtown Fresno—but once you turn into the palm tree-lined entrance to the club, you'll feel like you're a million miles away. An Early California styled clubhouse greets you at the end of the drive.
- An 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course designed by renowned golf course architect David W. Pfaff
- An award-winning tennis facility with a member lounge and 15 LED lighted tennis courts and 2 clay courts where the club has hosted USTA NorCal tournaments (recipient of the USTA's 2007 Outstanding Private Tennis Facility Award)
- A Fitness Centre that provides members with a complete gym experience
- A Swim Pavilion which includes a 25-meter outdoor swimming pool (with lap lanes) which is heated throughout the fall and winter, a toddler pool, and a spa.
- A Kid's Centre that provides members' children with a safe and fun place to play and relax while their parents play golf, tennis, use the Fitness Centre or enjoy lunch or dinner in the Restaurant.
- Alicante Park and Vineyards, along with The Terrace—one of the most popular outdoor wedding venues in Fresno
- The Restaurant at Copper River which provides the perfect setting for lunch, dinner or special event.
San Joaquin Country Club
Another northside club, north of town, along the beautiful San Joaquin River, is the San Joaquin Country Club, a private club with a tradition of excellence. Meandering along the bluffs of the river are 18 dramatic holes of golf unlike any in the region. Click here to take a tour of each of the holes. The clubhouse provides spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada's to the north and east, and stunning sunsets to the west. In addition to the golf course, SJCC features full club amenities including a pool, practice area, and driving range. The clubhouse offers fine dining, The Member’s Grill, and has banquet space capable of hosting banquets, weddings, and other events.
Fort Washington Gold & Country Club
Fort Washington Golf and Country Club began operations in 1923 as a 9-hole course with dirt fairways and sand greens. As you can see from the photo here, that course has evolved into a lush and beautiful 18-hole course just north of Fresno.
The dining and banquet facilities provide a 5-star experience that includes something for everyone. Friday night dinners at “the Fort” feature an exquisite dining experience with a gourmet menu and fine wines. Bingo night is always a hit for the kids and offers featured entrees such as "rib slab night" and "chicken, chicken, chicken, chicken and chicken night”…chicken prepared more ways than you would ever think possible. The club’s banquet facilities offer a wide variety of options and can accommodate events from large weddings to small business meetings. Click here for additional information.

There is a spacious practice range close to the clubhouse that’s great for getting the kinks out before you start your round. The Clubhouse at Madera offers both a breakfast and lunch menu. The club also provides services for weddings, receptions, corporate events, and even black-tie events.
